Indigo Fringe Kantha Quilt

A truly exceptional vintage Indian Kantha Quilt, often referred to as a Kantha Rug in India, hand-selected by Jody and sourced directly from India.

Unlike lighter Kantha throws, this is a substantial, heavyweight piece made from layer upon layer of vintage cotton saris and textiles, all painstakingly hand-stitched together using the traditional Kantha technique. Originally created to give worn fabrics a second life, Kantha has been practised across India and Bangladesh for generations, with each stitch carrying the history of the fabrics beneath it.

What makes this piece especially beautiful is its dual personality. One side reveals soft floral panels in faded blush pink, dusky lilac and antique cream, while the reverse is a completely different textile altogether, woven with delicate stripes in shades of seafoam, blue, blush and sage. It is quite literally two pieces in one.

The deep indigo fringe has been carefully added by Jody, giving the textile a rich, contemporary finish while celebrating its handmade character. The contrast between the faded vintage cotton and the bold indigo border transforms the piece into something truly unique.

Drape it across a bed, layer it over a sofa, use it as a statement floor rug, or hang it on a wall as textile art. Pieces of this quality, weight and character are becoming increasingly difficult to find.
